About the production

End

1:30 p.m.

The medieval figure of Melusine, the nixes of the Romantic poets, Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Mermaid, and Ingeborg Bachmann’s Undine are only a few of the female water spirits that swim through the works of authors as varied as Goethe, Fouqué, and Fontane. Even today, a fishtailed mermaid smiles at us from the Starbucks logo. In his lecture, Hanjo Kesting will discuss the various literary treatments of these creatures from the watery depths, while two readers bring them to life.
