The time has finally come: the unique creative process behind the Lausitzlieder reaches its first major milestone in a concert featuring the acclaimed singer-songwriter Alin Coen. For the first time, songs by writers from the Lausitz region will be performed, carrying the region’s poetry out into the world on the wings of music.
Over the past three years, numerous song lyrics have been created in several songwriting workshops across Lusatia, for example in Zittau, Guben, Cottbus and Weißwasser. Accompanied by experienced poets and spoken-word artists, people who write out of passion and for pleasure expressed their stories, hopes, worries and struggles in poetic form during these workshops.
Alin Coen, a long-standing figure on the German singer-songwriter scene, is currently setting a selection of lyrics by the Lausitz poets to music in collaboration with the composer and jazz musician Haggai Cohen-Milo. In early September, they will perform them for the first time with a band at the Gladhouse in Cottbus.
The Lausitzlieder, compiled from many voices, blend with the melancholic, sensitive and unmistakable sound of Alin Coen’s music. The Lausitz poets themselves are also set to be featured at the concert.
Lausitzlieder song workshops were held in collaboration with Friedensgrenze e. V. Guben, Gladhouse Cottbus, Telux Socio-Cultural Centre in Weißwasser/Oberlausitz, and Hillersche Villa Zittau. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our partners for their collaboration.

Alin Coen
Alin Coen (*1982 in Hamburg) is one of the most influential German-language singer-songwriters. Her poetic, direct songs tell of mindfulness, compassion and responsibility and are characterized by a warm, haunting voice.
As the daughter of a German doctor and a Mexican artist, she grew up bilingual and traveled through countries such as India, East Timor and Australia at an early age. In 2002 she discovered her talent for songwriting in Sweden, but in 2003 she began studying environmental engineering in Weimar. There she founded the Alin Coen Band in 2007 and released the debut album »Wer bist du?« in 2010. Further albums, awards and international tours followed. The Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung describes her voice as »a warm blanket«. In May 2026, her new album »Du bedeutest mir die Welt« will be released.
Haggai Cohen-Milo
The jazz double-bass player, composer and performance artist Haggai Cohen-Milo was born in Israel, studied at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and now lives in Berlin. The double bass virtuoso is a pioneer of interdisciplinary improvisation and performance. To this end, Cohen-Milo developed his own so-called Makespeak method in collaboration with dancers and choreographers, which combines sound, movement and visual art. It has already been successfully applied in many of his productions.
Cohen-Milo has composed works for film, theatre and dance, including »Jephta’s Daughter« for the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, »Savage« for the Brooklyn-based arts organisation Triskelion Arts, and »Rubber Day« for Ballet San Jose in California. In 2006, Cohen-Milo was awarded the Grand Prize at the Fish-Middleton Jazz Competition in Washington as a soloist. He has recorded more than 30 albums as a bandleader, sideman and co-leader. He has enjoyed a long-standing artistic partnership with the Lausitz Festival.
