About the production

Anyone describing Lucas Debargue as exceptional would be right in a number of ways. This French pianist is not the heir to a musical family tradition, he is not the winner of numerous competitions, and he made a complete break with his instrument at one point in his life before returning with greater passion than ever. So it is no surprise that his interpretations are characterized by liveliness, poetry, and artistic integrity. His solo program for the Lausitz Festival combines a Mozart sonata with Romantic works by Chopin, Ravel and Liszt. Can a break with tradition open new perspectives?

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791)
Sonate a-Moll, KV 310

Frédéric Chopin (1810–1849)
Ballade Nr. 2 F-Dur, op. 38
Präludium cis-Moll, op. 45
Polonaise-Fantasie As-Dur, op. 61

Maurice Ravel (1875–1937)
Gaspard de la Nuit: Trois poèmes pour piano d'après Aloysius Bertrand

Franz Liszt (1811–1886)
Après une lecture du Dante – Fantasia quasi Sonata
