Anyone describing Lucas Debargue as exceptional would be right in a number of ways. This French pianist is not the heir to a musical family tradition, he is not the winner of numerous competitions, and he made a complete break with his instrument at one point in his life before returning with greater passion than ever. So it is no surprise that his interpretations are characterized by liveliness, poetry, and artistic integrity. His solo program for the Lausitz Festival combines a Mozart sonata with Romantic works by Chopin, Ravel and Liszt. Can a break with tradition open new perspectives?
