The American singer Dee Dee Bridgewater is one of the most significant interpreters of the Great American Songbook. Yet her charisma extends far beyond this repertoire: with intensity and brilliance, she repeatedly turns her attention to songs from the American civil rights movement that are heavily influenced by soul and the blues, such as »Mississippi Goddam«, »Trying Times«, »The Danger Zone« and »Why (Am I Treated So Bad)«. She has mastered the fine art of scat singing to perfection. She also captivates her audience with every other note of her magnificent voice.

In her song programme WE EXIST!, whose title is certainly no coincidence in its reference to a hugely influential jazz album by the drummer Max Roach from 1960 (»We Insist! Freedom Now Suite«), Dee Dee Bridgewater brings together her wealth of life experience and all her artistic talents. For some time now, she has preferred to perform live in quartets featuring exclusively female musicians. Female empowerment, a fighting spirit and joie de vivre combine in her concerts to create an all-encompassing experience that uplifts, delights and empowers her audience.
