Claudia Michelsen reads three stories by Olga Tokarczuk

Polish author Olga Tokarczuk, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2018, is a masterful creator of personal worlds and universes that depict the crossing of boundaries as a way of life. In her stories, eras and epochs are intertwined, and eccentric yet commonplace heroes endure their fates or fight against them, robbed of their sense of belonging by the loss of homeland and identity. And so it can happen that a man climbs a mountain and sees the village of his childhood in the valley below, then finds no peace in death. The visions of a chambermaid in the Hotel Capital coalesce into a story as she fantasizes about the backgrounds and character of the hotel guests on the basis of the things they leave in their rooms. And in a Polish border town, the value of a can of sourdough soup is defined in numerous ways.

Claudia Michelsen

Claudia Michelsen, in Dresden geboren, studierte Schauspiel in Berlin und spielte an der Berliner Volksbühne, am Deutschen Theater und an der Schaubühne in Berlin. In vielen großen Film- und Fernsehproduktionen war und ist sie zu sehen, u. a. in Christian Schwochows zweiteiligen Verfilmung des Romans »Der Turm«, dem TV-Mehrteiler »Ku’damm« und als Kommissarin im Magdeburger »Polizeiruf 110«. Claudia Michelsen ist als Schauspielerin mehrfach ausgezeichnet worden, u. a. mit der Goldenen Kamera als beste Schauspielerin und zweimal mit dem Grimme-Preis. Sie tourt mit verschiedenen Lesungsprogrammen und leiht in Hörbüchern ihre unverwechselbare Stimme den unterschiedlichsten Protagonistinnen. Für das Lausitz Festival hat Claudia Michelsen Olga Tokarczuks Erzählungen eigens in ihr Lese-Repertoire aufgenommen; damit erlebt das Matinee-Publikum in Bautzen eine Premiere.
