»When are we us, when do we become us, because we can't be us without each other? We are a place that only comes into being when the three of us are here together. I was not here, I was in other nows and places, but I was not us because we were not HERE.«

(from »HERE«)

What is the »we« of a community of people who are in the same room, but at different times? Or to put it another way: what connects us on this side and beyond our simultaneous physical presence? Is it our traces, legacies or assumptions? Is it consciousness, feelings or beliefs?

These and other questions are explored in the new dance theatre performance by US artist Andrew Schneider, which is inspired by Richard McGuire's graphic novel »HERE«. The book was recently made into a film by Robert Zemeckis starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. Theatre, performance, storytelling, dance, technology - Andrew Schneider and his two co-creators Margaux Marielle-Tréhoüart and Joel Suárez Gómez masterfully combine all of these to bring the simultaneity of the non-simultaneous to the stage in real time.

We know what it's like to miss someone because they are no longer HERE. But what does it feel like to miss someone because they are no longer NOW? Together, the three tell the story of a single space across eons, where countless lives, dreams and travesties float through the present moment. Inspired by the theory of the simultaneous existence of multiple realities, quantum entanglement and utilising wireless in-ear technology, Schneider and co. explore the boundaries of relationships and storytelling. To do so, they focus their hyper-precise attention on the synchronisation of bodies in space over time – both cosmic and everyday.

The fact that the European premiere of this international production was awarded to the Lausitz Festival is thanks to the initiative of Margaux Marielle-Tréhoüart, who has been a dancer, choreographer and idea generator at the Lausitz Festival since 2023. »HERE« was commissioned by the traditional US theatre Jacob's Pillow in the US state of Massachusetts and will premiere there when it reopens in July 2025, to be shown in Cottbus shortly afterwards.
