Omar Rodriguez Calvo

Omar Rodriguez Calvo was born in Matanzas, Cuba, in 1973, where he studied double bass, electronic bass guitar, classical music, jazz, and popular music from 1984 to 1992. At 17 years of age he began performing with Argelia Fragoso and, subsequently, with Carlos Maza and Ramon Valle. Omar Rodriguez Calvo particularly shapes the Tingvall Trio’s sound through his rhythmic and melodic distinctiveness, conveying an unmistakeable hint of his Latin American origins to the listener.

Drums

Jürgen Spiegel

Jürgen Spiegel was born in Bremen in 1972 where he commenced his studies as a percussionist at the Conservatory of Music at the early age of 17. Subsequently, he studied jazz and popular music in Bremen, Groning, Hamburg, and at the Manhattan School of Music, New York. As a drummer, Jürgen Spiegel has performed with bands at home with all musical styles, including Kurt Elling, Yari Carissi, Dominic Miller, Nneka, Michael Kiske (Helloween), and the NDR Bigband at virtually all German festvials (Hurricane, Rock am Ring) and many European ones as well. In 2008 he was the first German to compose and produce theme music for the Al Jazeera broadcasting service, drawing much attention in the United Arab Emirates. In 2009 he produced the CD Dubai Nights (Virgin), containing compositions of Arabian Bedouins. Due to his rock temperament, Jürgen Spiegel is able to add his own unique impulses to the Nordic character of the Tingvall Trio’s pieces.
