In this work, Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov explores his East European Jewish roots. Premiered in 1994, »Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind«, a five-part suite for clarinet and string quartet, is one of the most moving works in the contemporary chamber music repertoire. The seductive sounds of the piece not only tell the story of Isaac the Blind, one of the founders of the Kabbalah in southern France in the early 13th century, but also explore the fate of the Jewish people from the time of Abraham to the present day. The award-winning clarinettist Pierre Génisson will perform with the Quatuor Hermès.

Since the quartet was founded in 2008, the Quatuor Hermès has received high praise from the public and the press. »As played by elves«, »Hamburger Abendblatt«, »A Zest for Peril and Playfulness« New York Times.
The quartet has toured in Europe, Asia, the USA and South America and is regularly invited to major festivals in Europe.
Further training with the Ravel, Ysaÿe and Artemis Quartet, Eberhardt Feltz and Alfred Brendel, had a decisive influence on the quartet.
The Quatuor Hermès has received numerous prestigious prizes, including first prizes at the International Competition in Geneva in 2011, the FNAPEC Competition in 2010, the International Chamber Music Competition in Lyon in 2009 and at the YCA in New York. 2012 - 2016 the quartet "Artistes en Résidence de la Chapelle Reine Élisabeth" was in Brussels, since 2015 they have been funded by the Singer Polignac Foundation in Paris.
So far, four CD's have been released on the La Dolce Volta label, including the string quartets by Schumann, Debussy, Dutilleux and Ravel and the piano quintets and quartets by Brahms with Geoffrey Couteau.
Omer Bouchez plays a violin by Joseph Gagliano (1796) on loan from the Mécénat Musical Société Générale, Elise Liu a violin by David Tecchler (1750), made available to her by the "Fonds Instrumental Français".
