About the location
The Lutherkirche was built in 1898–1901 on the so-called »Drachenfels« as a monumental central building in neo-Romanesque style as the focal point of the Wilhelminian-style town centre. The Lutherkirche is the first church in Görlitz to be built according to Protestant principles. The interior, designed in the spirit of the church reform at the turn of the century, has been preserved in its original form with its rich painterly and figurative decoration in a lavish blaze of colour. The mighty 58 metre high tower offers a wonderful panorama of the city in all directions – in good weather, the view extends as far as the Jizera and Giant Mountains.
