About the location
The association Kulturfabrik Hoyerswerda e.V. - or the Kufa for short - was founded in 1994 in a former youth club of the city, the "Laden". The founding members came mostly from Hoyerswerda's youth culture scene, which was considered alternative at the time. Their goal was to provide sophisticated socio-cultural work for the city's residents and their guests, and to develop appropriate projects across genres, ages and genres. What initially aroused skepticism became a success story for the city. In 1996, the Kulturfabrik Hoyerswerda e.V. association was given a larger home in the Kinder- und Jugendtreff am Markt. In 1999, the Kufa had to move to an alternative location on the outskirts of the city due to a planned reconstruction - the interim solution turned into almost 16 years. Since September 2015, Kufa has been back at Marktplatz. "What we want to open are not only doors, but also opportunities. Here, ideas should become reality, here you can meet like-minded people, but also those who are unique and different," is how the operators put it. Simply Quartet, an international string ensemble, will come to Lusatia to perform Sorbian works.
