About the location

Location Humboldthaus, Görlitz

Address Platz des 17. Juni, 02826 Görlitz

The former headquarters of the Görlitz Trade Association was designed by Edmund Koritzky and built in 1871. Between 1923 and 1933, the building housed the local Freemasons’ lodge. Since 1949, it has been known as Humboldthaus and has contained the lecture halls and administrative offices of the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History, as well as a number of significant collections open only to specialists (geology, palaeontology, entomology, arachnology, and vertebrate zoology) Since 1998, a 30-million-year-old basalt column has been displayed in front of the building, directly beside the Reichenbach Tower, providing evidence of the region’s volcanic geological history.
