About the location
In the middle of the 18th century, the time came when the former church in Cunewalde no longer met the requirements: it was too small and dilapidated. Several families could no longer buy a seat for themselves in the church. So the up-and-coming congregation decided to build a new church. It was to provide space for many people, so that it would never happen again that someone would not find a seat in this church. Lack of money forced several pauses in the construction. Nevertheless, many people gave their best. Poor weavers took a mortgage on their land in order to be able to contribute to the construction of the church with a donation. Lotteries were held to raise money. On the 4th of Advent in 1793 the church was consecrated with a festive service. The concert of Tenebrae musically traces a pilgrimage, while the final concert with Maxim Vengerov will mainly sound the music of the 19th century.
